Avondale Dance Directions is truly a unique studio located in Jacksonville Florida. John Glessner ( Owner and Director ) plays a very active role in supporting local Independent instructors and his studio is home to many. There is literally something for everyone at this incredible studio! Whether you are looking for expertise ballroom instruction and coaching all the way to social salsa and swing dancing and everything in between, the wide array of different teachers working together and their different styles of dance and teaching make this a very exciting place to be.

The Teachers

John Glessner has been teaching dance professionally for over twenty five years. He moved to Jacksonville in 1986 and after teaching in the area for several years decided in 2000 to open and direct his own studio. John’s studio has become a haven for Independent Instructors from all over. John is active in his local community. He has served as president of the board of director of his church, participating in programs at the Riverside YMCA and offering his professional services to groups and organization on a volunteer basis.
Tonya Bennett, No Frills Dance (904) 699-6369
Professional dance instructor Tonya Bennett is ‘No Frills Dance.’ After 10+ fun and successful years in a nationally franchised dance studio, she is now on her own, teaching as an independent dance instructor.
She brings years of training and hands-on experience in both dance and teaching to the table. She is skilled at making the finer points of dance accessible to the beginner, and is especially fond of teaching couples to dance together. There is both an art and a science to dance, and Tonya has a good handle on both, as well as the ability to transfer that information to her students. Oh, yeah – and the disposition to approach all that technique and learning with a great sense of fun. Because if it isn’t fun, then why on earth are we doing it?
Tonya enjoys being an independent teacher, which allows her to offer quality lessons at an affordable rate. She doesn’t have a big splashy ballroom, classes & parties of 50+ people, or a staff of dance hosts. But if you’re just looking for excellent, fun, and caring instruction at an affordable rate, without all the frills, you’ve come to the right place.
